Boystown raring for Cesafi debut

THE Sisters of Mary School (SMS) BoysTown Aloysians are raring to suit up as guest team in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) 2018 Season after the board approved them to join in various sporting events this season.

The Minglanilla-based school will be competing in the 12-Under basketball, secondary football, table tennis, athletics, volleyball and swimming.

“So far the training of the athletes is continuous since the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission started to support us,” said Mark Allan Cantal the school’s sports coordinator.

The Cesafi board has approved the participation of SMS Boystown in the 12-Under basketball last June and has recently announced that the guest team can also participate in the other sporting events.

“When the kids learned that they can join also in other sporting events, they are very happy and excited. The kids here are very eager to train. The coaches can really see their dedication to their chosen sport,” he said.

Cantal added that they have not met yet with the regards of the new sports that they can join but the school is very capable in fielding athletes since there are more than 2,000 students from Grade 7 to 12.

“When we join in tournament we will usually have tryouts because there are a lot of athletes. Unfair man pud if mag selection raka niya wala’y tryout. At least all the athletes will have the chance,” he said.

Cantal said that the athletes are training every day because they are also joining the 2018 Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals on Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.

Cantal said that the students’ engagement to sports has been very helpful on the personality development of the students.

“The sisters indulged the children in sports since they have seen a result that it lessens the misbehavior of the students. Most of the children their energy are diverted into sport and less na ila pabadlong,” he said.

Van Halen Parmis, the Cebu Province and Boystown basketball coach, said that the Under-12 basketball team is set to play and is very focus on their stint in Cesafi.

“I just advised the kids not to be pressured because it’s a first time for them. I want them to enjoy the game. As a motivation for the team, I promised them to a movie treat if they win the opening game. They said they will give their best because they haven’t tried watching a movie on the big screen,’ said Parmis. (RSC)
