Sanchez: Baha feedback

THANKS to SunStar Bacolod reporter Carla Cañet who sent me a feedback on my Wednesday’s column.

In a sense, op-ed writers are like showbiz or politicians. You know you’re made when people react to what you wrote. At least 1) they read what you wrote; 2) they were touched—positively or negatively—by the article. As the millennials call it, KSP (Kulang sa Pansin).

In this case, Carla forwarded through Messenger a message from Gigi Campos, a member of the Anti-Baha alliance. The message read, “Carla, please ask Sanchez to post his article on FB, public setting and tag us. Great article!”

In this age of multi-platform connectivity, it takes social media to connect with one another. Thanks, Ms. Campos, for the feedback.

A check with your Facebook account shows we have 50 common friends, many of whom are my brothers and sisters in Christ in the Light of Jesus Catholic charismatic community and in the organic agriculture community.

Carla also sent me several soft copies sent by Jean Trebol to key persons knowledgeable about the flood situation. That means the DPWH and city engineers.

She added, “There was no invitation sent to (Mayor Leonardia) to join the dialogue because Anti-Baha wants answers from people who have actual knowledge of the project.”

In my Wednesday’s column, I wrote that “That’s why I am aghast that Mayor Evelio Leonardia has politicized the Bacolod Anti-Baha Alliance as the political arm of former mayor Monico Puentevella.”

In fact, Miss Trebol wrote in behalf of Baha to the engineers, “We would like to invite you to a meeting on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Business Inn in Bacolod City. Considering the urgency of the concerns of Bacolod residents after the recent flood in Bacolod, we saw the need to call this meeting even on a Sunday. We are all hoping that you can join us in this meeting which we are holding for the sole purpose of providing a venue for a fruitful discussion with you and enlightenment from you with regards to the drainage situation of Bacolod City.

“I do not mean to rush you but a reply to this invitation today would be much appreciated so I can also inform the rest of the attendees if the meeting will push through or not. I am hoping for your kind understanding and favorable response to this invitation.”

No politics there. Carla pointed out that Monico is not running again for the local executive post. So please, give this partisan politics angle a rest. Mayor Leonardia, just do your job in enforcing the ordinances against littering and let the engineers focus on fixing the city’s drainage system.
