DOJ recommends filing of illegal drugs, explosives raps vs Barile

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has recommended the filing of illegal possession of drugs and explosives charges against Senior Police Officer 1 Joshua Barile.

The DOJ resolution dated July 12, which was signed by assistant state and investigating prosecutor Michael John Humarang found Balile guilty for five counts, for possessing three hand grenades and two vintage bombs and 1 count for the possession of 9.938 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or what is commonly known as shabu.

Meanwhile, the charges of violations of RA 10591 or the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition was dismissed for lack of probable cause.

In September 2017, the National Bureau of Investigation-Bacolod, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the PNP raided Barile’s house in Barangay Alijis, which resulted to a recovery of more than 50 firearms, including M16 and M4 assault rifles, four grenades, more than 1,000 assorted ammunition, and a sachet of shabu. He was then charged for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives, and drugs.

Barile earlier clarified that the recovered items were evidence from the raids conducted by his unit, and these were placed in his house for safekeeping.

But, the NBI said the police officer, who was also charged for murder for the deaths of the father and younger brother of drug suspect Ricky Serenio , has no documents to support his claim.

Barile, who was released from detention in December 2017, was arrested again on April 5, 2018 for illegal possession of dangerous drugs and firearms by virtue of two arrest warrants.
