BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia requested on Friday, August 17, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Western Visayas to conduct a drug assessment in the city.

Leonardia said PDEA should have an official assessment in terms of the drug problem in the city, adding some individuals took advantage of the drug issue as the 2019 elections is fast approaching.

PDEA-Western Visayas director Emerson Margate said they are conducting a monthly drug assessment in different cities and municipalities in Western Visayas.

He said they will make a report that will be submitted to the PDEA national headquarters.

“We intensified our intelligence monitoring not only in Bacolod City but also in all areas of Negros Occidental,” he added.

Margate noted that their personnel is also validating the source of illegal drugs that were seized in the area of Barangay Singcang-Airport last week.

Margate said the illegal drugs in Bacolod City are already manageable as there were no monitored big players or drug personalities in the city.
