BCPO: 965 reported cases vs children, women in 2017

A TOTAL of 965 cases against women and children were reported at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in 2017.

BCPO- Women and Children’s Desk officer-in-charge Inspector Arlyn Torrendon said the reported cases also include on Children in Conflict with Law (CICL).

Of the total cases, 73 were filed, 596 were cleared and a total of 544 cases were solved.

The office received 520 cases committed against women. Of which, 23 cases were filed in court, 354 were cleared and 349 cases were solved.

Cases against children reached 314 with 52 cases filed in court, 162 were cleared and 153 cases were solved.

For CICL, there were 131 cases reported. Of which, none was filed in court, 80 cases were cleared while 42 were solved.

From January to June this year, Torrendon said a total of 106 cases were reported at the BCPO. Of which, 51 were filed, 24 cases were cleared and 41 cases were solved.

Cases committed against women totaled to 35. Of which 13 cases were filed in court, two cases were cleared while 18 were solved.

For violations against children, 45 cases were received, 34 were filed in court, 21 cases cleared and 18 considered solved.

For CICL, 26 cases were reported to the BCPO, four cases were filed in court, one was cleared and five cases were solved.

To address violence among children and women, Torrendon said the BCPO continuously conducts an information campaign.

Also, “pulong-pulong” are conducted in various barangays in the city on special laws such as Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children or Republic Act 9262, Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination or RA 7610 and Anti-Rape Law of 1997 or RA 8353, aside from the distribution of information materials and utilization of social media as a platform of their campaign.

The BCPO, Torrendon said, also coordinates with the local government units, non-government organizations and other stakeholders to strengthen partnership and support.

The BCPO vows to strengthen its campaign to prevent violence against women and children and urged the community to support the drive. (PR)
