SWEDISH national Caloy Juapo brought the kilig to Cebuano fans when he witnessed the first B-Pop: The Acapella Challenge.

Juapo was among the guest performers of B-pop last Aug. 11 at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City. He astonished the audience when he performed in Bisaya—as is his signature.

Juapo, 28, became an internet sensation for his Bisaya song covers. Among his popular covers were “HAHAHAHasula” by Kurt Fick and “Atik Ra” by Jacky Chang.

This online sensation has been living in Cebu for the past two years.

Juapo said there are lots of reasons why he remained in Cebu. He highlighted two of these.

“One of the reasons is because I work in an IT (information technology) company here in Cebu. Next reason is because I love it here... so much,” said Juapo.

Juapo has been traveling for the last seven years but he never settled down in one place until he arrived in Cebu.

“Before, I’ve been traveling around. I would stay in different places for seven months or so and then travel again,” said Juapo.

He is undeniably in love with the Queen City of the South. He even said that the first thing he felt when he came in Cebu was “happy chaos,” which he did not feel in his own home.

There are three things Juapo loves about Cebu.

First, the weather. For him, the weather in the Philippines compared to Sweden, where he came from, is fantastic.

“From Sweden, it’s always tugnaw kaayo (very cold) all the time,” said Juapo.

The second thing he loves is the nature—beautiful nature. Thirdly, the people—the Cebuanos.

“I just love Cebu and just have found myself a home,” said Juapo.

“Cebu is the first place I really settled down. I got my apartment. I built a small studio in my apartment. I have my friends and family,” he continued raving about the province.

Juapo is so in love with Cebu that he also found love in a Cebuana. He is in a happy relationship with his girlfriend, who is from Aloguinsan, Cebu.

“She’s very supportive and we just match each other in many different ways. (She’s) very kind and beautiful on the inside and outside,” said Juapo.

Another love of his life is Cebuano music. Juapo expressed how honored he was to be able to perform at the B-pop: The Acapella Challenge.

“I’m really honored because I love Cebuano music. I’ve been loving Cebuano music since I came to Cebu. So it’s really an honor for me that I can actually be here and participate. It feels like doing something and creating something for the Bisaya pop community,” said Juapo.

Despite the fact that he does not know much Bisaya yet, Juapo expressed his desire in creating his own songs in Bisaya.

All his fans have something to look out for because the online sensation has been recording some covers. The date for their release is yet to be announced. There is also original music coming as well.

Jacky Chang, who sang Kurt Fick’s “HAHAHAHasula” with Juapo, also entertained the B-pop acapella competition audience, as did the Mandaue Nights and Maka Girls.
