Trees brew life

“WE WILL not have a society if we destroy our environment.”

This is a statement by San Miguel Brewery (SMB) in their quest to protect and preserve environment through tree-growing project. Over the years of planting, the company proved that this kind of project can only be successful when done in partnership with the community, local government unit (LGU), or NGA.

Last August 11, SMB, in partnership with LGUs, media, and other volunteers, held the San Miguel-Davao Brewery's National Tree planting Activity under the Tree Brew Life Project at My Paradise Beach, Tuban, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

This is the first time that the company planted in the area in partnering with Tuban LGU. Under the sun's heat, the volunteers still enjoyed planting the 2,500 mangrove propagules and finished it in just an hour.

In the past five years, the company focused on Matina Pangi as they made sure to contribute the very much needed regreening efforts after the said place was hit by a flashflood in 2011. In those years, the company was happy with the turnout of their labor.

Despite the declining survival rate, SMB remains happy with the surviving mangroves because they prefer tree growing over tree planting. It's time to actively take care of our Mother Earth who nourishes us. Without the environment, we can't survive. The future rests on our hands.
