Jealousy, business possible motives for Cordova double slay

THE Cordova police are looking at two angles for the motive behind the killing of a businesswoman and a businessman in the Cordova Public Market in Barangay Poblacion last Friday night.

The victims were identified as Analyn Menguito, 37, and Gilbert Bayot. According to SPO1 Erwin Gedorio, Menguito was about to close her dry goods store when a lone assailant wearing a helmet started shooting at them.

Gedorio said that Bayot, who also owned a barbershop in the market, often helped Menguito in her store.

Police are looking at jealousy as one of the motives, as both victims were married.

Bayot’s wife reportedly works abroad and she reportedly was aware that he was helping Menguito in her store.

Police are also looking at business as another motive, as Menguito reportedly had an argument with someone about her spot in the market. Gedorio said that Menguito was killed in front of her store, while Bayot managed to run.

He was rushed to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered four empty shells of a .45 pistol and slugs from the crime scene. JOB with HBL of Superbalita
