Councilor asks Solid Waste board on garbage problem's solution

COUNCILOR Betty Lourdes Tabanda asked the City Solid Waste Board to submit the terms-of-reference (TOR) for the selection of alternative solutions on waste disposal.

Tabanda asked for the TOR to facilitate the selection from among the many offered solutions by various entities.

The city continuously receives proposals about how to address waste disposal.

Most of the offers involve conversion of methane into energy, compost and other byproducts.

The councilor explained that due to the urgency of the situation, a holistic approach should be applied to avoid delays especially on technical matters that she said, could get in the way of implementing the project.

Tabanda pointed out that while the solid waste management committee has submitted a comparative analysis of what the many proposals is best for Baguio, a TOR is a necessary guide in coming up with the most viable, economical and ecologically sound technology.

Some of the proposals brought to the Council offer a "no cost" section.

All proposals are submitted to the Solid Waste Board for review.
