Registered births increase by 0.07%

BIRTH registrations reach 39,557 in the Cordillera Administration Region in 2017 with an increase of 0.07 percent compared to the 39,531 registered births in 2016.

Philippine Statistics Authority-Cordillera reported 108 babies were born daily in 2016 and 2017 or about five babies born every hour.

The province of Benguet recorded the highest number of registered births with 16,941 equivalent to 42.8 percent of the total registered births in Cordillera.

Kalinga ranked second with 5,691 registered births followed by Abra with 5,003 and Mountain Province with 4,274.

Meanwhile, the province of Ifugao and Apayao shared the lowest number of the total registered births in the region with 4,108 and 3,330 respectively.

The highest number of registered births was recorded during the month of May with 3,577 births or nine percent of the total live births in 2017 followed by the month of November with 3,535 registered births and October with 3,523.

The month of April was cited the least number of births registered with 2,808.

Marriage registrations in the region meanwhile decrease by 4.2 percent.

From the 9,658 marriages in 2016 a total of 9,247 marriages were registered in 2017.

The provinces of Kalinga, Ifugao, and Benguet posted an increase in the number of registered marriages in Cordillera from 2016 to 2017. Kalinga had the highest increase with nine percent from 1,076 registered marriages in 2016 to 1,173 marriages in 2017.

This was followed by Ifugao with a 5.8 percent increase and 2.1 percent increase in the province of Benguet.

It was observed that during the month of May, most couples preferred to tie the knot. In 2017, a total of 1,292 marriages was recorded equivalent to an average of four marriages daily.

The least number of marriages were recorded in the month of September with 413 marriages.
