THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas officials believe they have a strong case against Tejero, Cebu City Councilor Jessielou Cadungog, saying the latter was involved in the death of PO3 Eugene Calumba.

Superintendent Edhel Pereira, the regional police legal officer, said on Monday, August 20, that they will file a motion for reconsideration, hoping the panel of prosecutors will reverse its decision that dismissed, for lack of evidence, the murder and frustrated murder complaints against Cadungog last week.

The village official and his bodyguard-driver William Macaslang Jr. were charged over Calumba's death.

The prosecutors of Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office found enough evidence to charge Macaslang with homicide before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City.

They also indicted Macaslang with attempted homicide for shooting Michael Banua, the police asset who drove the motorcycle that PO3 Calumba was riding.

Macaslang posted Friday, August 17, a bail of P120,000 for the homicide case and P36,000 for attempted homicide for his temporary liberty.

"We were surprised (by the panel of prosecutors' decision) because we believe they will be filing the case (in court) that we have filed," Pereira said.

Pereira said they have yet to receive the prosecutors' joint resolution before they will file the motion for reconsideration.

A conference with police investigators will also be held to discuss the resolution and the contents of their motion. (KAL/SunStar Cebu)
