81st Charter Day street dance tilt set

THE City Government will hold the “Sinadya sa Ciudad: A Choreographed Street Dancing Competition” during the highlight of 81st Iloilo City Charter Day celebration at 7 a.m. of August 25.

The contest is continuous street dancing performances and participants will be given three-minute presentation, including entrance and exit, in front of City Hall as judging area.

The carousel route will start from City Hall to J.M. Basa Street, Iznart Street, turn left to Delgado St. at Amigo Hotel, turn left to Valeria Street, turn left to Ledesma Street, turn right to Iznart Street going to Maria Clara, turn left to Rizal Street, going to old SSS Building, turn left to Zamora Street, going to San Jose Church, and turn left to City Hall facing Plaza Libertad.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III said the innovation will add color to the event.

“Iloilo City has been recognized not only locally and nationally, but as well as in global arena because of a lot of developments happening. As we celebrate our cityhood, we would like to make the festivity livelier,” Espinosa said.

He encouraged everyone to witness the street dancing competition, which will be participated not only by City Hall employees but also by different schools, private company and government offices.

The contest is divided into three categories: Category A for public schools; Category B for City Hall departments and offices or clusters; and Category for representatives of the seven districts through the Barangay and SK officials, National Government Agencies (NGAs), Civic Clubs Associations, Civil Society Organizations, Business Corporations and Companies, and Private Schools.

The champion in three categories will be given P50,000 each; first runner-up with P35,000 each; second runner-up with P25,000 each; and consolation prizes of P15,000 each.

Best in Choreography, Music, and Costume awards will also be given with P10,000 in each category.

Each group is composed of not less than 25 people, but not more than 50.

Participating groups are encouraged to make innovative costumes that are aligned with the theme “Pag-ulikid kag Pagtib-ong: Fostering Local Communities by Strengthening Global Connections.”

Use of hand props is also allowed.

Contestants will provide their own music and only allowed to play vibrant and danceable 80s hits which may be canned or live.

Only one vehicle is allowed to accompany the contingent, provided it must be decorated.

Criteria for judging include choreography and synchronization – 40 percent; skills and mastery – 30 percent; and props and costumes, and music – 15 percent for each category. (PR)
