CEBU is a giant melting pot of homegrown artists of different talents. For the past centuries up until now, art has been the Cebuano’s cup of tea. Cebuano art lovers convened last Friday at Ayala Center Cebu’s Activity Center for the opening of the “Tubo Art Fair.”
During the opening program, classic Bisaya songs were played by a string quartet together with a drummer and a keyboardist. People can’t help but stop by and listen to the alluring melodies. Singer-songwriter Vincent Eco left audiences wonderstruck in his heart-felt song performance. Another artist made doodles with a marking pen on a big makeshift canvas live on stage.
The three-day art fair organized by the Arts Council exhibited works from local artists in the limelight. Students’ artworks from art schools were also on display. An array of different art movements and even sculptures were enjoyed by art enthusiasts. Some people enjoyed the abstract paintings, figuring out what emotions or messages these evoked. The art fair was also a good venue where children can be inspired to become future artists.
The name of this first-ever art fair is derived from the term “tubo” which means “to grow.” It aims to help local artists in Cebu grow and focuses primarily on the “bag-ong tubo” or the budding young artists. They were given the opportunity to display their masterpieces and directly sell them to the public.
