Market collections up

COLLECTIONS from the seven public markets in Iloilo City have increased considerably this month compared with the same period last year.

City treasurer Katherine Tingzon said this can be attributed to the fact that market stall owners and vendors are now aware in paying their rentals and other fees in the markets.

Tingzon said the collection from January 4 to 23, 2010 posted P5,142,166 or an increase of P271,430 as compared to the collection of P4,870,8735 during the same period in 2009.

The city, on the other hand, collected a total of P118,167,063 in total taxes from markets, local taxes, realty basic tax and others, such as refund, interest income and others. However, the collection does not include the internal revenue allotment (IRA) fund from the National Government.

The collections from January 1 to 23, 2009 registered P143,427,794, including the IRA of P32,669,604, Tingzon added.

Hopefully, the tax collection efficiency of the city treasurer’s office will greatly improve, like the payment of taxes this year, as the office just completed the payment of business renewals. (Lydia C. Pendon)
