Pinoy beatboxer sets an inspiration to youth

“ASIA’S Got Talent” Season Two second runner-up beatboxer Neil Rey Garcia Llanes, who served as an inspiration to the youth of this country, urged those who have their interest in beatboxing to let their passion drive them to learn the craft.

He said that whatever your interest is, like playing basketball, singing or whatever, as long as it gives you happiness, do it with passion.

Llanes was in Bacolod on Monday, August 20, with his parents Anthony and Rodena who celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary by going to tourist destinations in the province of Negros Occidental.

His girlfriend Christine Joy Bajao also joined them.

Llanes told SunStar Bacolod that he never thought that his former hobby will bring him to fame.

“I got so many blessings after AGT. Some of my dreams were already fulfilled due to my beatboxing. Modesty aside, we started building our new house in Davao and this is part of my blessings from God for giving me a unique talent which I graciously share it with my fellow Filipinos,” he said.

Llanes finished his studies at the Holy Cross of Davao College, taking up Business Administration in Marketing.

How it started

Llanes shared he discovered his talent inside a bathroom.

“I was taking a bath then. Our neighbor was playing the music Billy Jean by Michael Jackson. And I listened to it and started to make my own beatboxing and slowly catching up with its beat,” he said.

Llanes maintains his voice by practicing a healthy lifestyle. He does not drink alcohol.

“If I have flu or a cough, I immediately seek doctor’s advice,” he said.

Llanes still subscribed to the words of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal that the “youth is the hope of the motherland.”*
