THE other Rama who wanted to become Cebu City mayor is no longer in the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) list of candidates, a development that Acting Mayor Michael Rama welcomed and announced yesterday.

Acting Mayor Rama said that he got a partial and unofficial list of Cebu City candidates from the Law Department of Come-lec and it no longer includes Dorotheo.

The list, however, still has to be approved by the Comelec en banc before it becomes official.

In an interview with reporters yesterday, he appealed to Comelec to decide on all the pending disqualification cases before the ballots are printed.

Dorotheo already withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) last Dec. 17, but Michael said the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) went on to file a disqualification case against his opponent, just in case the documents on his withdrawal are not transmitted to Comelec Manila.

Last Thursday, he went to Comelec Manila to follow up the decision on the disqualification case to make sure that Dorotheo’s name is not included in the official list of candidates and in the official ballot.

“Comelec has to promulgate the resolutions that would declare some candidates as nuisance so that we would know if their names should be in the ballot or not,” the acting mayor said.

BOPK officials who are running under the Liberal Party filed last Dec. 21 the petition to declare as nuisance candidates those with the same family names as theirs.

The candidacy of the individuals fielded by opposition parties will cause confusion among the voters, BOPK officials said.

Aside from Dorotheo, a certain Serafin Rama is also running for vice mayor against the LP candidate, former party-list representative Joy Augustus Young.

In the north district, there are two Arcillas running for a council seat: Talamban Barangay Captain Alvin Arcilla for LP and Kugi Uswag Sugbu’s (Kusug) Zenica Arcilla.

There are also two Cabreras running: Emma Cabrera of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, an ally of mayoral bet Georgia Osmeña.

In the south district, incumbent Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias of LP will face Kusug candidate Junas Cabarrubias. (LCR)
