Sungduan: Cultural night

EVEN the Filipino Senior Associations in California, USA are taking an active role to promote and preserve the Filipino culture.

Filipino Seniors Association of Santa Maria Valley California Vice President Dr. Clarito De Francia, awarded as outstanding citizen of Baguio City in 2005 said their recent activity was the Cultural Night Celebration held at the Community Center, Santa Maria, California on August 11.

The successful activity organized by him and their president Thelma Alafriz Cabanas showcased the talents of their members and guests in Filipino traditional dances such as Sarung Banggi, Malong-malong, Sayaw ed Tapew na Bangko, and Pista dance which he joined with his wife Rosemarie Calisen-De Francia who is also his partner in their own company-DeFrancia Realty Group based in California.

All attendees of the cultural night were all at their best and extremely stylish barong and Maria Clara outfit.

The happy memories of their hometown was also reminisced when favorite songs such as “O, Naraniag a Bulan” played by Night Shift echoed in the air and also with the performance of Rosalinda Rumbaoa who was one of those selected to participate in the presentation of the Young Leaders Association of America held in Washington DC.

Elated to witness the beautiful event are guests from Bay Osos Filipino Community Association headed by their president Albert Calizo; Filipino American Association of Santa Maria Valley, Inc. lead by Rosario Sagisi; and The Narvacanian Association of Central California, Inc. represented by Rosabelle and Alex Calangan.

More than just a gathering, the event also served as a fund raising activity for the group's scholarship program.

An effort lauded by guest speaker Engineer and Nurse Practitioner Elvira De Francia – Dela Pena who enjoined everyone to support the cause which aims to help the youth back home have a better future through education.

As long as there are groups like the Filipino Seniors Association of Santa Maria Valley California aiming for the preservation of our cultural heritage, the unique Filipino culture will continue to live on and be known to the young generations.
