New batch of cops to undergo training

ANOTHER batch of new police officers in Davao region will undergo the Basic Internal Security Operations Course (Bisoc) during the Opening and Reception program on Friday, August 25, at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 grandstand at Camp Sergeant Quintin Merecido, Buhangin, Davao City.

PRO 11 spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said there were a total of 459 new police officers who will be undertaking the two-month Bisoc training aimed at upgrading the officers’ counter-insurgency skills.

The training will be facilitated by the Regional Special Training Unit 11 (RSTU 11) inside PRO 11 headquarters and other venues depending on the kind of training.

Bisoc is the enhanced version of the 45-day Special Counter-Insurgency Operations Unit Training (SCOUT).

Driz said the new roster of trainees is the third batch since the implementation of Bisoc in the region.

“This training is designed to equip the new cops with the knowledge, attitude, skills, and values that make them more capable and skilled once they get assigned to the public safety forces,” she said.

Driz added that the training also underscores the concept of small unit operations’ Standard Operational Procedures and the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) for operations like counter insurgency as well as develop initiatives and attitudes that could best help them live up to their duties and responsibilities.

On the other hand, PRO 11 regional director Police Chief Inspector Marcelo Morales in his message encouraged the new batch of trainees to take their training seriously and instill what they are about to learn throughout the process as they serve the Dabawenyos to keep them from threats of insurgency, terrorism and criminality.
