CHRISTIAN James Aquino of Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) proved that he’s one of the rising junior chess players in Cagayan de Oro.
On Tuesday, Aquino scored six points in seven rounds to rule the pre-fiesta Higalaay Chess Tournament 2018 organized by the Parents Chess Club at the 2nd floor of Limketkai Mall here.
“Tactical nga player si Aquino kon iya lang ma-check iyang pagka-careless usahay mo-improve pa gyod ‘ning bataa,” said arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon.
For his feat, Aquino received the P1,000 top purse.

Another MOGCHS bet Aaron John Dacut led a big bunch of 4.5 pointers and got lucky in the Bucholz tiebreaker to complete the top-10 circle in high school division.
