PRO-NorMin: Crime volume went down by 30% this year

A TOP official of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao on Friday, August 24, said around P155 million worth of illegal drugs have been seized and over 3,000 drug suspects were arrested in various anti-illegal drug operations in the region within one year.

PRO-Northern Mindanao director Chief Superintendent Timoteo Pacleb announced the drug war accomplishments during the 117th Police Service Anniversary at Camp Alagar, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, Friday.

Pacleb said a total of 23.7 kilos of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, known as shabu, and 4.5 kilos of Marijuana were confiscated during anti-illegal drug operations across the region from July last year to July 2018.

The PRO director also underscored the significant decrease of 30 percent in the crime volume, 44 percent decrease in index crime and 22 percent decrease in non-index crimes, placing PRO-Northern Mindanao in the top 2 spot, besting all other regions nationwide.

The police attributed the crime reduction to the effects of Martial Law in Mindanao, the government's war on drugs and the “Enhanced Managing Police Operations” strategy.

Pacleb also presented the upgrading of police facilities and equipment including rescue and disaster relief assets.

“The increase in logistics capability particularly in mobility assets provided to our units and personnel with mission-essentials will enable them to perform their mandated functions at the optimum level,”Pacleb said.
