Teens, tanods engage in rumble; Tanod hits teenager with baseball bat

A GROUP of teenagers who were set to celebrate a birthday party on Sunday, August 26, in Barangay 16, Bacolod City ended up in a fistfight with several village watchmen or barangay tanods in the said area.

Maria Catherine Andrade de Pena, the mother of 17-year-old Brian, complained that six barangay tanods went to their house to summon her son to come with them because somebody from Barangay 36 complained against his son allegedly for grave threat.

The village watchmen alleged Brian pointed a gun on the complainant, thus, he needs to go with them to the barangay hall.

At that time, there was a birthday celebration at their house, where his son’s friends were in attendance.

Brian did not want to go with them but the six tanods allegedly forced her son to go with them by dragging him outside of their house, the Maria Catherine said.

Brian’s brothers, John Leo and Christian, and their friends eventually gave in and went with the barangay tanods who appeared intoxicated, the mother claimed.

They agreed to meet Punong Barangay Nelson Ligaya but the village official failed to come.

Some of his brothers and their friends were already asking the tanods because if the Punong Barangay cannot make it, they will just go home to their house.

Minutes after, one of the barangay tanods hit one of the teenagers that resulted in a fistfight between the two parties.

John Leo asked his two brothers to cool down. But another tanod allegedly hit him on his head with a baseball bat.

John Leo was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital as he was already vomiting with blood.

Maria Catherine said she will file a legal complaint against these barangay tanods who were supposed to be peacekeepers but ended up as the “troublemakers.”

She said her son is still in the hospital because “the doctor told me that my son is under observation due to an injury to his head.”

The complainant against Brian even said that he is not the person who threatened him. (CNC/SunStar Bacolod)
