BACOLOD City Councilor Caesar Distrito urged the City Legal Office (CLO) to file charges against those people who illegally dumped the garbage in the middle of the road at Lopez-Jaena Extension last week.
Distrito said on Sunday, August 26, that illegal dumpers can be charged for violations of anti-littering ordinance and Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
“Once it will be determined the identity of the perpetrators, the CLO should file charges against them to serve as a lesson to those who engaged in illegal dumping because they are not just destroying the environment, but they are also destroying the image of the city,” he said.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia had earlier ordered a probe on the incident, as he believed it was done intentionally.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on environment, also said the act is sabotage because there’s an ongoing clean and green competition.
She further said that the action is deliberate because the trash was so properly placed in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, Daryl Abiol, project supervisor of the city’s garbage hauler IPM-Construction and Development Corporation (IPM-CDC), said they are regularly collecting the garbage along Lopez-Jaena Extension.
“Our garbage collectors are regularly collecting the garbage in the area and it’s the first time that it happened,” Abiol said.
