Public urged: Dispose garbage properly

TOURISTS and fiesta revelers are urged to throw their garbage in trash bins so as to reduce garbage after the Higalaay festivities.

Engineer Armen Cuenca, chief of the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) said they will place as many garbage bins as they can in city streets especially during parade events.

Cuenca said this is also part of educating the residents on proper waste management through the City Ordinance 13378-2018 or Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance.

"Magpakatag kita ug mga garbage bins o basurahan libot sa syudad karong kapistahan ni Sr. San Agustin sa tinguha nga mas hapsay ug limpyo nga syudad ang masaksihan sa katawhan," Cuenca said.

The ordinance mandates that those will be caught throwing garbage indiscriminately will be penalized, but this time, residents will be warned as part of their information and education campaign.

The ordinance says it is illegal to throw plastic bottles, candy wrappers, and cigarette butts everywhere.

Cuenca said they will also deputize barangay tanods and other agencies concerned to act as enforcers on the streets.

Garbage collection on the fiesta celebrations is expected to double, this is why he said, the residents' cooperation is necessary to achieve garbage-free fiesta celebrations.
