Zamboanga City registers 10 HFMD cases

LOCAL health authorities are closely monitoring the occurrence of the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) to prevent its spread in this Zamboanga City.

This came about as the city health office (CHO) noted the sporadic occurrence of HFMD since January this year, according to Dr. Dulce Amor Dagalea-Miravite, CHO head.

Miravite said they have so far registered 10 cases of HFMD since January this year.

The breakdown are as follows: February and March, one case each; May and July, three cases each; and, August, two cases.

She said the HFMD is a viral infection, which is being treated symptomatic and “if the immune system of the patient is strong, it is self-limiting for seven to 10 days.”

A person can be afflicted with the disease through infected secretion.

She said the signs and symptoms of HFMD include fever, and rashes in hand, foot, and mouth.

She advised the public to seek immediate medical consultation once they manifest the signs and symptoms of HFMD. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
