Electrician shot dead by security guard

AN electrician was shot to death by a security guard inside a private school at Talisay City, Negros Occidental Tuesday morning, August 28.

Killed was Rey Bico, 48, of Barangay Matab-ang.

Police records showed that Bico and suspect Harold Tanjongon, 59, of Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, were walking near the Accounting Office inside the school premises after the flag ceremony around 7:27 a.m. when a heated argument ensued between them.

The suspect allegedly punched the victim and suddenly shot him twice using his issued .38 caliber revolver.

Bico sustained two gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

The students were already inside their classrooms when the incident happened. They were all unharmed.

Police will be asking for a copy of a closed circuit television camera footage of the school to help them in the investigation.

Meanwhile, Tanjongon, in a media interview, said that the victim hit him on his neck first which prompted him to commit the crime.

Murder charges will be filed against Tanjongon, who is detained at Talisay City Police Station.

Accidental firing

A 14-year-old boy was injured after he was involved in an accidental firing at Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Monday, August 27.

Police withheld the name of the minor-victim, who is a Grade 6 pupil.

Superintendent Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim and the suspect Michael Semillano, 30, were about to have dinner when the latter’s firearm, which was placed on a table, unintentionally fired, hitting the victim on his hips.

Semillano, who is a caretaker of a gamefowl farm, fled but was later arrested.

The victim was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Guadalupe said the victim’s family already executed an affidavit of non-interest to file a case against the suspect, who will be released from police custody after the 12-hour reglementary period. (GYM)
