THE Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental is strengthening its campaign against stray dogs and cats that carry the deadly virus, rabies, in the entire province.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Benjamin Resma has reported that for the past few months, the capitol's veterinary office has been able to vaccinate 15,362 dogs and cats under the Rabies Control Program.
"Sa maong ihap, 15,238 ang iro ug 124 ang iring,"Resma said.
Rabies is a deadly viral disease acquired from bites or saliva of infected animals, especially dogs and cats.
Governor Yevgeny Emano has announced that gelding of dogs and cats across the province is ongoing.
"Adunay ginapahigayon nga pagkapon sa nasangpit nga mga mananap sa katuyoan nga dili sila modaghan, diin maoy gilantaw nga hinungdan sa pagsaka sa ihap sa nabiktima sa rabies ug hinungdan sa sa pagkakulang sa anti-rabies vaccine (There is an ongoing castration of animals to prevent their population increase which was identified as the cause for the increasing number of rabies victims as well as lacking supply of anti-rabies vaccines)," Emano said.
The Provincial Veterinary Office is also conducting the continuing Information Education Campaign on how to fight rabies.
