Pacete: A political anatomization

AT La Mesa de la Libertad in Silay, everything could be a tale including political tale with a tail. In there, we have a gathering of addicts (coffee addicts) who could be politically astute individuals. Their astuteness made them special.

Political upbeats are palatable and crisp. An incumbent official seeking for reelection needs to come out convincingly that his political platform has been properly executed. If he cannot prove it, his constituents will be fast to conclude that they were just fancied by a promise. This could not be good if the incumbent official cannot prove that he has provided employment, infrastructure projects, peace and order, health service, education program, etc.

Chances are that his legitimate political opponent will simply point out what he missed in his constituency function.

This is easy to do especially if that opponent has good propagandists. His mouthpieces will simply bank on white propaganda (straight news), gray propaganda (half-truth, half confusing) and black propaganda (purely drawing). That propaganda strategy could always be used by any candidate.

What could be worst if, in the group of the incumbent, there is one who would dare to challenge and run for the same position. He could be Mr. Disclosure. That is possible because he is an insider. He knows very well what went wrong in their group. If he is good in his role he could be an underdog. His appeal to emotion may attract the voters. That is best but very hard to maintain.

Any challenger (insider or outsider) must establish a credible core that would create waves and more waves that would make him the ‘hero of the masses’ and a sure winner. To do this, he must have good political advisers, good field lieutenants, and finance officers. In a political battle, generosity is still needed.

Money is still a factor. It could weaken your opponent. It could buy the leaders of your opponent or the opponent himself.

It could sustain the enthusiasm of your followers who are attending the meeting. To finance the headquarters, a politician needs good staff and updated equipment.

Any challenger should not just base his political vision on emotion. He has to convert that emotion into political platforms and make those platforms convincing. It cannot be disregarded that in the case of towns and city mayors, they still have to consider who is running for congressman, governor, and senators. Even they have the advantage, they still have to belong to major political parties.

Our brothers who control the upland areas may affect the outcome of the election. Here in Negros, candidates may need a better connection with our sugarcane planters. The ‘appeal factor’ still works for the young generation.

Morality issue holds true for our teachers, intelligent voters, religious group, and Christian businessmen.

This anatomization could just be a simple tale. Enjoy your cup of coffee!
