Illegal lumber seized in La Trinidad

SOME 395 board feet of pine trees were recovered by police authorities at Lower, Wangal in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Police Chief Inspector Benson Macli-ing said concerned citizens informed their office of the pine trees cutting activity in the area.

Responding on site, the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station on Monday found the pieces of cut pine trees on private lot.

However, no individuals were arrested during the operation.

Investigation shows the illegally cut lumbers worth P21, 700 will be used in the construction of a house.

The chief of police added the culprit had taken advantage of the inclement weather to ensure the sound of chainsaw will not be heard.

The confiscated lumbers was turned over to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).

The illegal loggers may be held liable under Presidential Decree 705 known as the Forestry Code of the Philippines which prohibits any person who cut, gather, collect, removed timber or other forest products from any forest land, or timber from alienable or disposable public land, or from private land, without any authority, or possess timber or other forest products without the legal documents as required under existing forest laws and regulations.
