Offer of marriage settles date rape complaint

A NINETEEN-year-old girl fell prey to a text mate she met at the plaza for a date last Thursday night. He allegedly raped her.

Rose (real name withheld) met her 17-year-old text mate John in the park of Barangay Poblacion, Sibonga.

While talking, John told her he needed to go home to use the bathroom. Rose, who did not want to stay alone in the plaza, agreed to accompany him to his house, reportedly not far from the plaza.

However, before they reached John’s house, he pushed her into an empty garage beside a store and pinned her to the ground.

He left after raping her.

Distraught, Rose boarded a tricycle to bring her home to her parents and told them what happened. They brought her to the police station.

Minutes later, police arrested John at his house and detained him at the police station.

John told police he and Rose have been an item since last year through text and that the encounter was not the first time for them.

John, Rose and their parents met to discuss the case and decided to have their children get married instead.

Police released John from their custody after an agreement was signed. They plan to get married in August. John turns 18 this June.

Representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and the Women and Children’s Concerns Desk served as witnesses to the agreement.

Today, they plan to slaughter a cow and take it to Rose’s house so that a formal “pamanhikan” will take place.

They invited their witnesses and some police officers to attend and to serve as sponsors at their wedding.
