Mayor allowed to run for Congress

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc decision allowed Itogon Mayor Mario Godio to run for the congressional race in the province of Benguet.

Comelec chairman Jose Melo with six commissioners said, "...due deliberation resolves to accept the certificate of candidacy (COC) of Mr. Mario W. Godio for the member of the House of Representatives... without prejudice to the filing of petition for disqualification for late filing of COC."

Provincial election officer Elenita Tabangin who was manning the polls has declared that the Itogon mayor arrived at the Comelec office after 12 midnight to file his COC.

However, in his petition addressed to the Comelec, Godio asserts he arrived at the Comelec office on time.
