Ordinance to ban sale of bottled drinks, alcohol in festival sites eyed

BACOLOD City Councilor Cindy Rojas is planning to author an ordinance that will prohibit the selling of bottled soft drinks and beer in the festival sites in the city.

Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on environment and ecology, said yesterday that Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), requested for the passage of an ordinance prohibiting the sale of bottled soft drinks and beer within the festival sites and use of barbeque sticks during the celebration of 39th MassKara Festival on October 8 to 28.

She said she will propose the same ordinance not only during the MassKara Festival but for all the festival activities in Bacolod.

“We should prohibit the sale of bottled soft drinks and beer in the festival activities because there is a tendency that some the revelers used these as a weapon,” she added.

Rojas noted that during the Chicken Inasal Festival, she also requested all the business establishment along Araneta Street to prohibit the use of bottled soft drinks and beer.

Rojas said she will prepare the ordinance and will submit it next week. (MAP)
