BUSINESS owners who plan to put up new gasoline stations along the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) in Talisay City might want to rethink making that investment.
This after a Talisay City councilor filed a proposed ordinance prohibiting the installation of new gas stations along the CSCR from Barangay Lawaan 1 to the Talisay City-Cebu City boundary in Barangay Tanke.
The ordinance, which has passed first reading before the Talisay City Council, is currently being deliberated by the Committees on Laws, Trade and Industry.
In his proposed ordinance, Talisay City Councilor Rodi Cabigas said the continuous installation of gas stations within the city would put the CSCR in an “unsafe condition.”
Cabigas said that investors interested in putting up establishments within the CSCR complained that they can’t proceed with their plan as their sites are often near the gas stations.
Cabigas, in an interview, said investors are often turned off because gas stations situated near their establishments could cause a potential fire hazard.
There are currently nine gas stations currently established at the CSCR, Cabigas said.
Through the proposal, Cabigas hopes to stop the construction of new gas stations along the CSCR and to allow new types of businesses to flourish.
Cabigas said they hope that with the measure, high-end commercial establishments such as hotels and resorts; shopping malls and commercial offices, among others, would start setting up shop along the CSCR.
He said that back in 2010, he filed a resolution asking the same and that this was approved at that time.
Cabigas filed the proposal in the aim to prepare the CSCR should the city’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) be updated and approved by the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).
