THE Philippine men's basketball squad dominated over Syria, 109-55, to end its 2018 Asian Games campaign in fifth place on Friday, August 31, at the GBK Basketball Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Filipino-American Cleveland Cavalier Jordan Clarkson led the Filipinos with 29 points, four rebounds, and six assists, while naturalized player Christian Standhardinger tallied a double-double performance with 27 points and 15 rebounds.
The national team improved on their seventh-place finish last Asian Games in Korea. It is also the highest ranking for the Philippines since 2002.
Gilas, which is led by Coach Yeng Guiao, is looking forward to the Fiba World Cup Qualifiers versus Iran on September 13 and against Qatar on September 17. (Nicko Tubo)
