Sabaldan: Alindao is accurate, Biliran is hard to contain

JERRY Rentucan of ABS-CBN was hot as the durable, all-around shooter, rebounder, blocker of Inday Sara Red in the Inter-Media Basketball Sunday-only tournament at the newly-refurbished Almendras Gym in Davao City.

We are one happy, united family of media dribblers off the court. Inside the rectangle paint, its serious basketball specially with Green power forward Alex Bao a.k.a DJ Big Joe around bringing his antics and weight during the games.

Rico Biliran was deadliest in the three-point area and does effortless basketball in the perimeter while Rentucan was hard in the rebound as he is flexible in the jump shot.

Norly Morata of GMA completes the trio of the speedy Reds drubbing of the Greens, 67-76.

Greens' Carl Eric Alindao is an accurate perimeter shooter despite the two to three-man defense thrown his way by the Reds. Boom Boom Jerios issued a game-high 24 points to no avail.

These are some of the players to watch in the current inter-media basketball made available through the sports patronage by Mayor Rody Duterte and Inday Sara Duterte to give us breathing space from the daily grind of broadcast, print, and inter-active journalism.

The Allan Abais (DXAB) and Jun Digamon (GMA) tandem of the Rody Black are two of the most exciting players that can give the Reds' Rentucan-Biliran duo a good match-up if they will survive and make good use of their twice-to-beat positions in the remaining semifinals games against both the Whites and the Greens.

These guys can be good materials to form the Inter-Media Team A for possible inclusion to any of the basketball games under the Duterte Basketball League (DBL).

We are grateful to the organizers of the all-media tournament for giving this opportunity to prepare us and make us more worthy of the works entrusted to us as catalyst of public opinion.

May we be more mentally prepared to handle the task through physical preparations and a little diversion from the challenging task.

That is how they love media and how we love media works and hope that you will be more kind and patient to us. We promise to improve every Sunday and all the days thereafter.

In the upcoming Davraa volleyball, the team to watch is the DCAA champion selection of Ateneo de Davao and the Davao City National High School. We also expect a lot of improvements in the other Davao Region teams especially Davao del Norte.

Half a dozen teams will be vying for the coveted dominant representation to the next Palarong Pambansa slated to be held May 2010 in Tarlac.

This will be a showcase of future national players and will give us a glimpse of the future of RP volleyball players.

Davao has consistently been a rich source of new national players.

Volleyball Beat: Davao City's best kept secret is Mary Mae Tajima.
