Victim in Talisay shooting dies

A TRADER, who owned a septic tank business, died hours after he was shot by a gunman in Barangay Tanke, Talisay City last Thursday dawn.

Supt. Henry Biñas, Talisay City Police Station chief, said Leonides Yap, 48, succumbed to a gunshot wound past 1 p.m.

Biñas learned of Yap’s death from one of the employees, while he visited the yard of Yap’s Cebu Septic Tank Inc. in Sitio San Rafael, Tangke.

He rectified an earlier report that the victim was a woman.

Yap had just boarded his service vehicle when a gunman, who waited for him outside his office garage, shot him at close range at 3:30 a.m.

The gunman then fled on foot to the interior of San Rafael, without hurting the three other employees who were with Yap.

Biñas theorized that the gunman used a revolver because no empty shell was found at the crime scene.

As of yesterday, homicide probers were looking at the possibility that a disgruntled employee was behind the attack.

Investigators learned that Yap had terminated the services of some of his employees and that the latest was only this month.

Biñas also learned that one of Yap’s employees reportedly advised him to refrain from visiting his office for his safety.

Biñas said the victim never missed visiting his office on the eight, 18th and 28th of the month.

Last Thursday’s dawn assault fell on Jan. 28, an indication that the gunman knew about Yap’s scheduled visits.
