Benguet pushes for annual Palarong Panlalawigan

INSTITUTIONALIZATION of an annual Paralong Panlalawigan in the province of Benguet has been proposed at the Provincial Board.

Board Member Johnny Waguis authored the ordinance known as “An Ordinance Institutionalizing the Annual Palarong Panlalawigan of the Province of Benguet.”

In the proposed measure, the alderman said the conduct of an annual Palarong Panlalawigan in the province as continuing program of the provincial government of Benguet for the purpose of discovering potential athletes, promoting physical fitness and advocating a healthy and clean living among the citizens

Included in the proposed ordinance is the creation of Benguet Provincial Sports Development Council (BPSDC) assigned to carry out annual sports development plan determining the different sports discipline, the participants and the schedule of the competitions the budget for each event.

BPSDC is composed of the provincial governor as the chairman, SP chairman of the committee on sports and youth development as vice chairman, while members include the ABC President, Provincial Sports coordinator, municipal sports coordinator of the thirteen municipalities of Benguet, representatives from the Higher Educational institutions, technical-vocational schools, private basic education schools and two representatives coming from the different accredited sports associations.

The annual sports event is eyed to be conducted in the months of July to August.

An amount of P2 million is appropriated for the implementation of the ordinance.

The proposed measure is currently on second reading.
