Gacad: We Serve

THE 26 years of Lions LD and 68 years of Lions Host of San Fernando La Union portray both clubs’ strong mission to give and restore sight, to support education of the youth and other humanitarian projects.

Founded decades ago, Lions Clubs of San Fernando La Union are under the Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization with over 46,000 clubs in 200 countries. To date, it has over 1.4 million members unified by a motto, “We Serve.”

Lionism aims to provide vision to mankind through various programs like vision screening, eye disease seminars, donation of medicines and construction of hospitals and clinics. Distribution of eyeglasses, as well as free cataract operations, are part of the “Sight First Mission” of Lions. Keeping up with its commitment to serve the youth, the LD and Host Clubs of Lions La Union, provide scholarships as well as recreation and mentoring to Leos, the younger generation Lions, and those who are not in the fold. The Lions Clubs promote programs of its mother club including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange, and Lions Quest.

True to its pledge to help during disasters and aid the underprivileged sector of society, Lions are a common sight in disaster-stricken areas.

Some of the recent projects of the LD and Host Lions of San Fernando La Union for the current Lion Year were: Feeding program, distribution of school bags with school supplies, and footwear distribution at Pagdalagan, San Fernando City, La Union on July 28, 2018. The same activities took place at South Central, Ilocanos, Catbangen and Canaoay Elementary Schools on July 30.

A Joint Feeding activity in August 22 at San Juan Central School followed by a wheel chair donation at Barangay Calingcamasan, San Juan, La Union were undertaken by the LD and Host Lions of San Fernando, La Union. A feeding program also took place at the Gabaldon Elementary School on August 30.

On the 15th of this month, the LD and the Host Lions will once again have the induction of officers who will lead the flock and bring vigor to community service of dedicated Lions. A new brood of members will also be welcomed.

I write this article to solicit support to the new set of leaders, the future revolutionaries of positive change to our nation who will continue a legacy of service and dedication to the community.

Congratulations to the following La Union LD and La Union Host incoming officers and new members, as well as officers and new members of all clubs in the Philippines and the world who shall likewise have inductions:
