BAGUIO City Councilor Michael Lawana has moved to summon key people involved in the amusement park at SM City Sky Ranch project to determine if safety, zoning as well as traffic measures have been considered.
Lawana, who is also the president of the Baguio City Association of Barangay Councils, is calling representatives of the mall chain as well as permitting officials of the city to look into the legality and safety of the almost finished amusement park at Luneta Hill.
The city lawmaker cited questions on safety as well as placing of the rides in the tree-filled area of the Luneta Hill.
“Is it a geo-hazard area?” asked Lawana.
The barangay chief is also concerned on the impact on traffic once the area opens and the compliance to the zoning ordinance of the city.
Lawana said if and when lapses are seen and proven, operation of the project will have to halt and comply with standards set by the city.
The invitation to call on mall officials as well as scrutinize legalities surrounding the amusement park will be set next week, during the city council’s regular session.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan previously said management of the SM City amusement park has long before intimated the opening of operations at the privately-owned Luneta hill and assured it is within zoning laws despite being near the university belt of the city.
Domogan said he is sure the setup of amusement rides will be within safety standards and quality, owing to the reputation of the giant mall chain, dubbed to be the biggest in the country.
The chief executive said the operations will also have to go through city procedures and taxes.
