DEFENDING champion Green Team retained their title during the Sportsfest 2010 of the University of St La Salle-Bacolod Graduate School at the Sta Fe resort in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City on Saturday.

Police Chief Inspector Rico Santotome Jr, spokesman of the Negros Occidental PNP, said that the defending champions eked out a close overall decision against closest pursuer Red Team in a tie-breaker.

The Green Team earlier won in the volleyball competition versus the Red Team but Police Chief Inspector Samuel Mina and Police Inspector Argel Ancheta's Red Team defeated the Green Team of Police Chief Inspector David Cachumbo in the basketball event later in the afternoon to force a tie for the overall standings.

The standoff forced a winner-take-all clash in the Videoke Challenge which the Green Team eventually won behind Police Chief Inspector Jefferson Descallar's near-perfect rendition of a Visayan song.

Santotome added that the Green Team came in a close second in the cheering competition to duplicate their runner-up finish in men's basketball in retaining the crown they won last year versus the Blue Team of Police Chief Inspector Edhel Pereira.

Coming in second place was the Red Team, winners of the cheering competition, composed of policemen and nursing students taking up their master's degree at USLS-Bacolod followed by the Blue Team which won the Amazing Race and tug-of-war events while the Yellow Team finished dead-last.

Present were Dean Irma Madonna Echaus, faculty and staff of the USLS Graduate School as well as Project C.O.P.S. and other masters students led by Graduate School Student Council president Ed Agraviador.
