Badiangan to host 13th Farmer’s Congress

THE Municipality of Badiangan that is known for its booming organic farming and high-value crops will host the 13th Iloilo Provincial Farmer’s Congress on Friday, September 7.

The congress, organized by the Iloilo Provincial P4MP Federation of Farmer’s Associations, will be anchored on the theme – “Para sa Panguma nga Mainuswagon, Agribusiness Adoptaron” (Adopt Agribusiness for Progressive Farming).

Elias Sandig Jr., assistant provincial agriculturist, explained that the congress will focus on agribusiness as key to developing marginalized farmers.

To optimize their potentials as producers, farmers will be encouraged to venture into agribusiness by giving them the right knowledge and access to opportunities.

Around 3,000 farmers from various organizations all over the province and their respective mayors, municipal agriculturists, and technicians are expected to attend this congress in Badiangan covered gym.

Sandig is among the three trainers who will speak during the congress. As the province’s focal person on organic agriculture, he will talk about agribusiness opportunities in organic farming.

Concepcion Carillo, owner of Carillo Diversified Farm, will share her experiences and her secret to a thriving business.

Agri Marketing Assistance chief Maria Teresa Solis of the Department of Agriculture will orient farmers about their existing credit assistance program.

Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. will give an inspirational message, while Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol is expected to keynote the event.

Others guests include Western Visayas Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Remelyn Recoter, Agriculture Training Institute Center Chief Director Eden Bautista, Iloilo Vice Governor Christine Garin, 3rd District Congressman Arthur Defensor Jr. and Board Member Lorenz Defensor.
