Davao school gets bomb threat

A NEW college in Matina received a bomb threat on Tuesday, September 4, police said.

Talomo Police Station commander Chief Inspector Ronald Lao confirmed Wednesday, September 5, that the Malayan Colleges of Mindanao received a bomb threat from an unknown sender around 10:30 a.m., prompting the school management to call its security to check it out.

Authorities then sent a K9 unit, Central 911 and Explosive Ordnance Division to ensure the protection of the students.

Meanwhile, local security forces issued a stern warning against senders of the bomb scare circulating online to allay the fears of the public on the heels of the twin bombings in Sultan Kudarat last week.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Alexander Tagum warned the individuals spreading false information online about possible targets of bombing.

“Terrorism is a psychological warfare. Terrorists try to manipulate us and change our behavior by creating fear, uncertainty and division of society,” Tagum said.

He added, “Do not support terrorism by spreading false bomb alarm/joke. We will seek you out and arrest you.”

Tagum also took note of the messages that are being forwarded online such as bomb threats in the cities of Davao, Tagum and Panabo.

“Let us advise our people not to be scared by these series of bomb scare. The intention of terrorism is precisely what is happening now to most of our people - to scare them in a way that simply walking out in the streets is becoming impossible. We must together fight terrorism by showing them that we are not afraid and that we will fight them when they enter our beloved City. Fight them with our vigilance and common resolve that we will not be cowed,” he said.

Authorities assured the public that they are not letting their guards down and they are always on full alert to ensure the safety and security of the Dabawenyos.
