Oro’s Paalam still reeling from semis loss in Asiad boxing

CAGAYAN de Oro City’s Carlo Paalam broke in tears after losing in controversial fashion against an Indian boxer during their semifinal bout in the 18th Asian Games boxing men’s light flyweight division on Friday at the Jakarta International Expo in Indonesia.

Paalam, who won a gold medal in this year’s Philippine National Games in Cebu City, lost by a point against India’s Amit Panghal, 3-2, and settled only for a bronze.

An angry Elmer Pamisa, Paalam’s indefatigable coach, was also in disbelief, claiming his ward should have won the fight.

“Tinalo si Carlo sir pero grabe panoorin ninyo, walang kinuhang round ang kalaban n’ya sa 1, 2 hanggang third round at akala ko sure na panalo. Na-iyak si Carlo kasi panalo na dapat siya talaga,” Pamisa told Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno via text messaging.

(Carlo lost sir but you should watch it. His opponent did not win in the 1st, 2nd until the third round. We were sure for the win. Carlo cried because he should have won)

Pamisa is not only coach for the Philippine Boxing Team, but also Team CDO.

“Kaya nga iyak tawon Carlo kay alam talaga niya panalo siya eh,” was Pamisa’s last message on Paalam’s defeat.

(That’s why Carlo really cried because he knows he won)
