DENR approves 2 hanging bridges for Calinog

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has approved the construction of two hanging bridges that will serve the people in mountainous villages of Hilwan and Aglonok in Calinog town, Iloilo under its forestland management project.

The agency’s subproject approval committee approved the proposals with allocations of P6.5 million and P6.6 million, respectively, during their deliberation last month in Metro Manila, according to Raul Lorilla, officer of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro).

Lorilla said they are now working to comply with the pertinent technical documents like the certificate of non-coverage from the National Commission for Indigenous People and the inventory of trees affected by the construction.

Meanwhile, the procurement of P19-million road rehabilitation and construction of pathway in Lambunao, starting from Sitio Agdalusan going to Barangays Jayubo and Cabatangan, was opened for negotiation by Penro Bids and Awards Committee after two failed biddings.

Eligible construction companies have been notified by the Bids and Awards Committee regarding the matter.

Janiuay has yet to submit the detailed engineering design for the construction of P20-million pathway from Barangay Quipot to Barangay Barasalon.

The other project proposals from Calinog, Janiuay, and Lambunao will be accommodated in 2019 under the P323-million allocation for Agro-forestry Support Facilities of the Forestland Management Project in Iloilo. )(Jezza Nepomoceno)
