Police urge public understanding to traffic woes in public market

AN OFFICIAL of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has urged motorists and the public to bear with the authorities on the traffic scheme implemented in the city's public market.

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said they have suggested to the Roads and Traffic and Administration (RTA) and the City Economic Enterprises Department (CEED) to beef up security around the Cogon and Carmen public market.

"Among gi-suggest sa RTA ug CEED nga palig-onon ang seguridad pero ang RTA na nagbuot sa ruta," Hortillosa said.

He said the local police recommended the beefing up of security following the deadly blast in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Hortillosa said public markets are among the areas which are vulnerable to possible terror attacks.

The inconvenience brought by the moderate to heavy traffic as a result of the rerouting scheme around the public markets drew ire from some motorists and buying public.

But, Hortillosa said authorities are only doing its part to ensure safety and security of the public.

"Para man kini sa seguridad sa katawhan busa kinahanglan gyud dunay pag-antos gamay," Hortillosa said.

(This is for the public’s security thus we need a little sacrifice)

Hortillosa maintained there is no new terror threat for the city and that the enhanced security efforts implemented by Cocpo is just a precautionary measures to preempt attacks by any threat groups.

Hortillosa said there is no definite period for the implementation of the traffic scheme.

"Walay exact date kung kanus-a taman ni ipatuman pero kung kami pabut-on madugay-dugayan gyud siguro ni," Hortillosa said.

(There is no exact date when it will end but if it will be up to us, this will really take some time)
