MILK production in Negros Occidental has gained a boost through the 27th Visayas Area Business Conference and Agri-Livestock Expo at the event center of SM City Bacolod recently.

The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showcased milk products produced by the province through its Dairy Development Program during the three-day event last week.

The program has been providing Negrenses nutritious milk through feeding activities, as well as marketing opportunities for farmer-raisers.

The Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm at Barangay La Granja in La Carlota City produces fresh milk-based products with flavors like ube, pandan, mango, strawberry, and chocolate, among others.

PVO said the milk production initiative is a joint-venture with Tenshinzan farm. It aims to provide fresh and calcium-rich milk especially among school children in the province.

It cited the Municipal Government of La Castellana as among the local government with high purchases of milk produced by the province.

The town buys at least 3,000 bottles of fresh milk every month for their regular milk feeding program to schools and barangays.

Moreover, Provincial Veterinary District Units in Fourth and Fifth Districts are also conducting milk feeding program in different schools in their respective areas.

This is also a means of promoting the province’s products that may create livelihood and boost the income of dairy cattle raisers while at the same time advocating for good nutrition.
