AS SUNSTAR Davao celebrates its 23rd anniversary today, let’s know some interesting facts:
1. The only community daily in Mindanao serviced by a rolled paper-fed Web Machine called Offset Web Printer capable of printing as much as 36,000 copies an hour.
2. The first community newspaper in Mindanao to use desktop publishing as early as 1989.
3. The first community newspaper in Mindanao to use digital cameras in news coverage.
4. A multi-awarded newspaper winning over 100 awards from various award-winning bodies, particularly the Philippine Press Institute, where the newspaper received Best Edited Newspaper, Best in Business and Economic Reporting, and Best in Photojournalism, among others.
5. The first community newspaper in Mindanao to be printed in full color.
6. Even before most of the major national dailies explored the internet, SunStar Davao went online first on February 1, 1997. That was long before the SunStar Network Exchange was organized to take care of the network’s online presence.
7. The first and only newspaper in Mindanao to publish a yearbook – the Davao Yearbook.
8. The first community newspaper in Mindanao to publish special supplements on Araw ng Dabaw, Kadayawan, etc.
