BIAG Gaongen, Agnes Locsin's protégé is back after recently completing his Master in Fine Arts at the Ohio State University, USA, to take on the role of associate artistic director and dance teacher for advance classes at the Locsin Dance Workshop (LDW) with LDW's offering for this month, “Solos: Apak... Tapak sa Syudad ng Dabaw.”

Choreographed and directed by Biag, Solos features dances inspired by images of Davao City, as interpreted into contemporary dance. He will perform with Monique Uy and Samantha Martin, LDW’s best dancers.

An Igorot by birth, Agnes has taken Biag under her wings since 1997 after being cast in the title role of Agnes' Labaw Donggon for the Philippine High School for the Arts in Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna, when he was just 14.

Biag was a dance artist of Ballet Philippines, Tanz Oper Graz in Austria, and Cloud Gate Dance Theater in Taiwan. In between, he performs, teaches, and choreographs for LDW. Biag performed in Locsin’s Alay Sa Puno Series (Ugat, Bulak, and Bunga), along with other Locsin Babies, a term of endearment for Agnes' former dancers in Manila in the 1990’s.

He took a break from all these for his masters at OSU.

“I am Kankan-ey of Sagada of the Mountain Province,” Biag says. “But it seems like I have spent over half of my life in Davao. I don’t claim to know Davao as well as my Nanang (Agnes Locsin) but it is my second home, and I love Davao.”

“Apak... Tapak is my tribute, to show my gratitude to Davao, which has cradled, nurtured, and given me refuge for seemingly all my life,” he adds.
