HAVING dandruff may be embarrassing, but it’s a common problem amongst Filipinos. Luckily, you can fight your dandruff and eliminate it totally using four locally available and affordable products.

Dandruff is a skin condition that normally affects the scalp which results to flaking and mild itchiness. The “flakes” are dead cells being pushed by the scalp. This is caused by an excess of sebum on the scalp.

Although I take good care of my hair, my scalp still experienced dandruff problems caused mainly by an allergic reaction to a hair mist. Partly, it was also because I don’t scrub my scalp well when bathing because I used to think that shampoos when rubbed a long time in the scalp would cause dandruff. This caused sebum build up. I learned later on that it is only a matter of finding the right shampoo for you.

For months I struggled with mild to embarrassing level of flaking which made me feel conscious particularly when I’m wearing dark clothing and I’m hoping you don’t experience the same kind of insecurity that I felt. So I’m sharing here the products that I used ranked from least to most effective for me in battling major dandruff problems.

1. Nizoral Shampoo – Nizoral shampoo in my experience works great with mild dandruff. Dandruff will go away in just one to two washes. But when I had a worrisome case of dandruff which included major flaking, Nizoral Shampoo didn’t work as well as I had hoped that it would. You can buy this at Watson’s or pharmacies near you.

2. Human Nature Jojoba oil – My flaking decreased significantly after about three consecutive nights of applying jojoba oil directly to my scalp and this works really great in relieving the scalp from itchiness. The Human Nature jojoba oil is organic and similar to the skin’s sebum which effectively relieves itchiness. However, the flakes still persisted and it didn’t eliminate my dandruff totally. You can buy this at Human Nature booths or sellers near you or online athumanheartnature.com.

3. Human Nature Clarifying Shampoo – I love this shampoo. I’ve been using it for several months now and I’m actually on my second bottle. This clarifying shampoo effectively cleanses the scalp from residues left by other hair products. The scalp needs to be cleansed to prevent sebum and bacteria buildup that may cause dandruff, oiliness, or dryness. You can buy this at Human Nature booths or sellers near you or online humanheartnature.com.

4. LS BL Cream – the BL anti-fungal cream is a 35-peso miracle. Just two to three uses and my dandruff has completely subsided, leaving my scalp feeling clean and clear like it hadn’t felt in a very long while. It contains 10 mg of ketoconazole that has anti-fungal properties, the same ingredient in Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo. It smells good and doesn’t leave my scalp feeling oily as it is absorbed well by the scalp. I hadn’t experienced any side effects at all, although long-term use isn’t recommended. This is available at Chinese drug stores near you. I bought mine at the Chinese drug store located at SM Ecoland Annex, Davao City.

Do you have questions or recommendations? I’d love to hear from you.
