Minor quake damage noted in DavOr

THE Davao Oriental Provincial Government through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Councils reported that there was minor damage to some structures after the magnitude 6.4 earthquake on Saturday, September 8, 2018.

Provincial DRRM (PDRRM) assistant officer Francis Jason Bendulo said no casualties were reported as of Sunday, September 9.

In the municipality of Manay, which was at the epicenter of the earthquake, minor damage was reported.

The Municipal DRRMC (MDRRMC) reported minor cracks at the Manay District Hospital.

In Barangay Central in Tarragona town, the MDRRMO reported one damaged house in NASA 2 and damage to the national road in Purok Buhangin.

There was structural damage to the Regional Evacuation Center. Some parts of a parish church have also been damaged.

In Barangay Jovellar, Tarragona, a landslide took place in Purok Cambitan but the road is still passable.

In Tomoaong, one lane was damaged due to fallen boulders while 10 houses were damaged in Kamuning area.

Several houses were also damaged in Barangay Maganda and roads were damaged due to tension cracks and moderate landslide. There was also a landslide in Tagubon area in Barangay Lucatan.

On Sunday morning, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) together with the Local Government Unit of Tarragona conducted clearing operations along the national roads.

In Mati City, patients and hospital staff who were evacuated on Saturday have returned to the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center.

The hospital management said they made sure that all electrical wirings were checked first before allowing patients and staff to return. Some cracks, however, were noted on the walls of the hospital.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 28 kilometers. (PR)
