ART is celebrated in many ways. For SM Supermalls—during their annual “Art For Everyone” exhibits—23 malls nationwide offered a week-long art exhibit for artists to display their works for the entire country to see.

This year, SM City Cebu displayed the artworks in the mall’s Art Center from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2. The exhibit highlighted digital art, photography, animation and illustration.

“This year, ‘Art for Everyone’ will give mallgoers meaningful reasons to bond with loved ones as we bring this fun-filled celebration of art, creativity and family fun moments closer to them in malls across the country,” said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing.

The annual exhibit gives artists the opportunity to display their artworks without the usual gallery fee.

Vicente Tan, the curator of Qube Gallery, screened the artworks submitted for the exhibit last Aug. 22, and an influx of artworks were submitted from Cebu showing the overflow of Cebuano talent.

Individual artists that auditioned and where chosen to join the exhibit are Ekim Bargamento Mañacap, Ver Pacas, Lucil Montermoso, Lemuel Montejo, Ryan Yu, John Medrano, Rosever Banaay, Paul Gotiong, Reginald De Guia, Val Thomas Abapo, Ben Shan, Richard Karl Nayne, Ramer Duhino, Richard John Pozon, Jan Sunday, Bree Esplanada, Pao Agpawa, Blanche Sypaco, Bea Gomez, Aldrin Jake Suan, Chrizyl Jane Garate, Christian Xevier Piañar, Ken Hensly, Shari Llamis and Emot Amodia.

Groups that joined the exhibit included Cebu Mobile Shutterbugs, Cebu Animation Guild, Sketchbook Challenge Cebu and UVNS.

Hundreds of mallgoers visited the exhibit and learned about contemporary artists and the developing art scene of Cebu. “Art for Everyone” is scheduled to happen again next year with a different highlight.
